Extension of Wielkopolskie Centrum Onkologii in Poznań

Due to the distinctive surroundings and the complex functional program, the primary design objective is to meet seemingly conflicting requirements: the characteristics of a perimeter block building (as this type of development dominates the area) and a point building (to ensure adequate sunlight exposure).

To fulfill the first requirement, we have opted for a clear height relationship with the adjacent sports hall by distinctly marking the base of the building (ground floor + technical floor) at a scale corresponding to the historic structure. This ensures a cohesive pedestrian experience along the pathway between St. Mary Magdalene Street and St. Francis of Assisi Church, providing a uniform architectural frame at the pedestrian level. Complementing this composition are horizontal divisions in the façade, continuing the window proportions of the neighboring building, along with a vertical arrangement of window divisions.

The building's height is justified by its integration into the compositional grid of higher public utility buildings in the area: the Adam Mickiewicz High School No. VIII at Hipolita Cegielskiego 1 along the east-west axis, the WOC building at Garbary 13, and the most significant landmark—the St. Francis of Assisi Church—along the north-south axis.
